An old mentor of mine once told me that an artist is a rare breed of person. You can drop an artist into any job and he will figure it out and excel in it.
I don’t think I can build a rocket, fly a helicopter, or translate Korean for NATO, but my mentor makes a profound point – we the creatives are vigorously developing something that no one else is paying much attention to nowadays: we are honing our creative thinking techniques. This directly relates to lateral thought, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities. We are training our minds to think like leaders and produce results that others would not even consider due to lack of vision and conventional thinking methods.
When you see a problem, you don’t limit yourself to one solution – you reach for more. Keep doing that. Even if you don’t realize it, you are changing the world.
